We are pleased to announce the winner of our fall flash fiction writing contest. Michaylah Malone takes the grand prize home for her story, “New Hands on Deck.”

All submissions to the contest were required to be less than 1,000 words. It’s very challenging to create a complete story–setting, character, action, dialogue–in such a short space. Michaylah’s story transcended the word count, and created something bigger than her 1,000 words.

You can read the full text of her story on the School of Kingdom Writer’s website here (click).

Michaylah won the $100 Amazon gift card, as well as bragging rights and having her story published to the SOKW website.

The award for runner-up goes to Kaylie Michel for her story, “Intuitive Truth.” Kaylie wins the item of her choice from the SOKW store (click). Check it out for cool writerly t-shirts and coffee mugs.

Don’t worry if you missed this contest or didn’t win, the fun starts all over right now. This winter, we’re looking for flash fiction stories on the theme “Disrupted.” The usual fabulous prizes apply. Learn more about the winter contest here. Submissions are due by March 1.

These contests are one way that we support the community of Christian writers. This is an important opportunity to test your work in an open marketplace. There’s no cost to enter, and you always retain the rights to your work. Flash fiction makes it easy to enter.

Check it out and submit your work! What have you got to lose?
