I didn’t think I was smart enough to write a time travel novel.
Come on, it’s time travel. The greatest scientific minds in our generation haven’t been able to figure out how to do this. What made me think I could figure out a new way to time travel, let alone a way unique enough (and without plot holes) to actually write an entire book about it?
Let’s rewind back to the Summer of 2024
I’m in my second year at The Company. At that point in my life, I’d already produced Lawless, had written one full-length novel, and was gearing up for the publication of my first novella, Copper Lies.

I sat down with Brad to discuss writing my second novel, which I had to finish in order to graduate. I had a few plans, two of which I really liked and one of which I had in the pile because my assignment had been “come up with three novel plans.”
Wouldn’t it be my luck that the third plan I dreaded the most was the one that Brad wanted me to write?
I had every excuse in the book not to—I wasn’t smart enough to understand regular science, let alone what it would take to write about time travel—and I was ready to lay it all out for him, too. I opened my mouth, ready to explain myself, when Brad held up his hand.
“Tell me why you can’t do this time travel novel,” Brad said, pointing to my outline. I opened my mouth. He stabbed the papers with his finger. “And you can’t use ‘I’m not smart enough‘ as an excuse.”
I shut my mouth. I had no other reason.
From concept to #1 New Release
Fast forward to now, and that time travel novel I had so much fear and anxiety over writing is on Amazon, and it’s a #1 New Release!

Call It Consequences is a real book, and real people are reading it!
There are a million reasons to not do something. You look hard enough, and you can find them.
Before I came to The Company, I was living in those million reasons… a million excuses to not finish a project, to not keep up with my writing, to keep living in old mindsets rather than the truth Jesus has for us.
Now that I’ve graduated? I learned a million things by coming to The Company. But the most important one was how to say “yes” instead of “no”.
I wouldn’t have been able to write this book, to conquer time travel, if I didn’t have someone like Brad pushing me out of my comfort zone, challenging the lies I believed about myself. I wouldn’t have been able to write it if I’d listened to those excuses.
Writing a book is hard. It’s complicated and deep and emotionally exhausting at times…so why do it alone? The Company is always looking to help writers take the next step in their journey.
Maybe instead of coming up with a million reasons not to…it’s time to try on a little tiny “yes” and see what happens?
