Dear friends,
I hope you’re already busy on your submission to our Fall Writing Contest. We want your best stories on the theme “Layers.” There’s $100 and a publishing opportunity up for grabs!

Learn more about the Fall Writing Contest here.
We are updating one of our rules for this contest. Previously, we had no specific rule regarding the use of generative AI.
However, it will be a rule for all submissions moving forward, for contests, anthologies, or other opportunities, that no AI-generated content will be accepted.
We recognize that lots of software like spelling and grammar checkers say they’re “AI.” The use of these programs is fine. However, please do not use any AI program to generate your ideas or the content of your story.
Even if you feel you have significantly changed the content or idea from the way an AI program generated it, it is still ineligible to be submitted to a contest. If a software program was used at any point in the production of this piece of writing, whether to generate new ideas, create new content, or improve the substance of your content, that work is no longer eligible to be submitted.
When we run a contest, we want to see who the most creative and best writers are. We’re not interested in seeing who can use AI the best.
If you use AI as part of your process, you are welcome as a member of The Company. You just can’t submit your AI-collaborated work to our contests or other opportunities. We strongly encourage you to reevaluate your position (see this video for our
reasoning), but at this time we respect that it is your personal decision to make.
For our Fall Writing Contest: Layers, the winner will be published by The Pearl, our literary magazine. The Pearl does not accept any AI-generated content or knowingly use AI in any part of its production process.
If you have already submitted something to our fall contest and you used AI, please email us. You will be welcome to withdraw your submission and submit something else.
If you have any questions, please send us an email at info@writers.company.
