We are on a mission to train world-changing writers, no matter their nationality or age. The international, multigenerational unity that springs from that mission is astounding.

If you’ve ever felt like the only one, you’re not. Christian writers are spread across the globe like signal fires.

One of them is a Canadian writer who loves worldbuilding. Her name is Alyssa Dyck. Learn about Alyssa through her spotlight and say hi in the comments.

Introduce yourself:

My name is Alyssa and I am a Christian writer from Canada! I am eighteen and I have loved crafting stories since I was nine years old.

What genres do you write?

I write Christian fantasy with a bit of romance!

The main story project that I am currently working on is a high fantasy novel with political tension and intrigue about a young soldier with a naive view of the world who comes to see the corruption within his city and makes a plan to bring it to an end. It has unique kingdoms and cultures, betrayal, secrets, and friendship!

Is there a core theme/message that inspires your writing?

My theme is being a light and having hope in the face of seemingly overwhelming darkness.

What’s the biggest challenge you face for your writing today?

My biggest challenge is often developing my characters and writing them in a realistic way, however writing is a skill that comes with practice and each story I write improves in this aspect.

Would you rather fight a bear or swim with a shark?

I would rather swim with a shark, since a fight with a bear, I’m guaranteed to lose. But swimming with a shark, there are ways to avoid an attack.

What’s your favorite resource from The Company?

My favorite resource is the support from the people and the meetings I get to participate in. I love being able to talk to other people about writing, especially people who share my beliefs and values.
