My first novel sits in my computer because I’m pretty certain I need to take out all the times my main character’s deceased son comes to her in dreams, revealing things he now knows. To stay true to Christian fiction, I’m thinking that has to go.
Hey Karen. Good question.
If your only concern is about fitting into the genre, you wouldn’t necessarily have to remove them. It’ll be more a question of whether the way these dreams are used violates the conscience of the specific publishers or editors you’re approaching to publish the book.
We could have a long discussion about the theology of such a thing, but that’s not what you’re asking. 🙂
As far as the genre is concerned, a dead relative appearing in dreams won’t automatically disqualify the book from being considered a “Christian” book.
