My sister is a writer, and she told me about “The Company”. I am a beginner developer, and I am trying to find something that I could make that people would want to use. And I thought, why not make a Christian Online Writing Community?
Well, what I was wondering is: Does anybody want a Online Writing Community for Christians? Because I know that It would hard to find one that is christian and has other christian writers using it.
And what would writers like you want in a writing community, and would you use it?
Thank you so much for you help!!!
Hi Laura,
There are a number of online Christian writing communities!
I’ve personally participated in The King’s Daughters’ Writing Camp, which is a free online community open to Christian ladies (of all ages). Women only, though.
It’s set up very similarly to NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). There’s not any professional teaching, it’s more of a safe space for writers to connect and hold each other (somewhat) accountable.
Camps run in March, July, and November.
You can find out more about it here: https://kingsdaughterswritingcamp.com/
I’ve also participated in The Young Writer’s Workshop, which is a paid program that’s set up very similarly to Facebook, except they have a library of courses.
The courses are taught by writers with some accolades under their belts (several have published books) and there’s also a thriving community.
It’s very large, so it’s easy to get distracted by the sheer number of events, but it helped me connect with a few friends and understand the basics of the publishing industry.
You can find out more about it here: https://theyoungwriter.com/workshop-students
The Rabbit Room connects Christians in different art forms (like painting, songwriting, and storytelling), but I’ve never personally participated, so I can’t fully tell you what that looks like.
You can find out more about it here: https://www.rabbitroom.com/
For any writers looking to seriously grow, I’d recommend The Company’s Premium Membership.Â
The live coaching groups offer the opportunity to ask a publishing expert direct questions, which neither of the other groups offer.
You can also get accountability to actually write and learn from a (far more comprehensive) catalog of courses.
You can find out more about it here: https://writers.company/membership/
I’ve been around a bit, so feel free to ask me if you’re looking for a program that offers a specific resource (for example, the opportunity to get feedback on your work). You can always tag me in the Facebook group or email me at hello@vellakarman.com. 🙂
Thanks,
Vella
There is one at Christianwriters.com . You might consider checking it out to see how they have done it and what you do or don’t like about it. It is a great place of Christian fellowship and writing discussions.
There is a critique page and ways for people to connect to work on larger projects, and such as well.
To be honest, a lot of the discussions are not always exactly about writing, but still good Christian fellowship. (Like Friday funnies. Not always on writing topic, but still brighten up the day.)
One thing that they tried to do but is pretty much lacking, is a small groups sections to talk about projects and ideas with people interested in just your genre. There are also no training options or anything. Just writers, more writers, and wanna-be writers.
I really like it (and obviously other people are there too), so there is some desire for it. I’m sure there are also things that could be improved in another different site. Also, I’m sure some of the people there would probably be interested in joining another site as well, if one were available.
One comment that people have made is that it would be nice to include other arts (like painting, music, etc.) in such a wonderful Christian community. Not sure if that’s something you’d be willing to do, but just something to consider.
Good luck in your endeavors!
I know that there are a few Writing Communities already, but I don’t think that there is one for Christian writers. The only problem would be: I’ve never been on a online writing Community, so I don’t really know what it is. And it would cost some money so I need to know if people would actually use it!😃
