Hello, I was wondering, can the novel be a combination of short stories using the outlines you provided? Can the outline also be used to write an autobiography?
Thanks for sharing,
Susie
Hey Susie. That’s such a great question.
A novel can be a collection of short stories with the same characters. Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck is one of my favorite examples of this kind of story. As the protagonist moves from story to story, you’d still want to follow the same general rising and falling action depicted in the three-act structure.
If you’re writing an autobiography or a memoir, definitely follow the structures and systems defined by The Novel Matrix. That will help you to distill all of the infinite complexity of real life into something that your reader can understand and relate to.
I hope that helps! Can’t wait to see what you write.
