Brad told us to leave some conflicts hanging, not tie them off, I left all of mine except for the philosophical ones, is that too much to leave undone? Will that leave the reader feeling satisfied? My little world external one is kinda tied up, the antagonist leaves and is never seen again, so I guess you could figure that one as being finished. But that is just three of five, is that too little? Should I figure out how to end another one too?
Hey Colleen. The important thing is that you resolve the Driving Conflict. If you do that, then you can do anything you want with the other four conflicts.
The Driving Conflict is that conflict that really compels the reader through the story. What is it that they just have to know the answer to?
It’s not impossible, but it’s unlikely that the philosophical conflict is your Driving Conflict. It’s pretty uncommon for that to be the case and difficult to accomplish.
It’s sometimes challenging to answer questions like this without seeing the manuscript, but my first piece of advice is to clearly identify the Driving Conflict. Make sure that you resolve that. Then the fate of the other four conflicts is up to you. The reader will have received what they’ve been waiting for.
