Hey everyone. The Winter Writing Challenge has been a blast, I don’t want it to end!! I realize how fulfilled I am when I can post my works, and people can vote, comment, critique it. It gives me the encouragement I need to keep writing.
That being said, what are y’all’s thoughts on online writing communities? As a Christian, my major concern would be joining one, only to be bombarded with inappropriate stories or nasty messages from unbelievers. Are there any Christian versions of WattPad for instance, where one can expect wholesome forums and equally wholesome writers to engage with you when you post stories?
Scribophile seems highly rated, anyone try that before? Or Writeseen? I need a place for my fiction pieces to land other than in my family’s laps. (:
This is such a good question, and honestly, I’ve been checking in because I have no idea either! I’d love a good online writing place to share writing and stuff.
I know as a teenager I used a site called Figment. It wasn’t specifically Christian, and I did get my fair share of harassment when I posted explicitly Christian content, but I quickly found a few others who shared my faith, and we were mostly able to keep to ourselves on it. Figment shut down in 2016, though, so I don’t have any other online writing groups I can point to. :/
I’d say it might not be a bad idea to join one and test the waters, see how it is. If it doesn’t work out, you can always leave the site, right? I’ve never heard of Scribophile or Writeseen, so I’m definitely going to check those out 🙂
Thanks for the reply Alli! I agree, probably a good idea to try one out and see what it brings. Maybe a writing forum run by the Company may help out a lot of young Christian writers. (Hint, hint)… (:
Oh my goodness this is exactly what I want to build!! I’m a beginner developer and I’ve been thinking about this so much — a Christian writing community where you just KNOW it’s going to be safe and the people are going to be kind. Would you actually use something like that if it existed?? Because I’ve been seriously thinking about making something like this.💻
