Welcome to the fourth week of the Spring Writing Challenge!
You all did so well with your stories last week! There were so many interesting and unique ways you interpreted the prompt. It’s now the fourth week, so it’s time to do it again! Will your story have an epic battle between good and evil? A long-lost evil brother? Whatever you decide, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
So, without further ado, here’s your next prompt!
Week Four Prompt – The Theme Prompt
Write a story that’s about a
Bigfoot Reunion
Wait…what’s a theme prompt?
A theme prompt is a prompt that’s about a particular subject! It doesn’t matter where your story takes place, who’s in it, or what’s said. The only thing that matters is that your story must be about a Bigfoot Reunion.
Before you start writing, we have some important rules for you to follow.
Writing Rules
1. Please keep the content of the stories you post to a PG rating. Please avoid real curse words. Violence/fighting should be limited and purposeful. Please do not include any spice.
2. Your story must be 1,000 words or less, and must contain the prompt to be counted for the challenge. You’re not required to post it in order to “win” the challenge, but if you want it to count for your team, your story must be posted by Sunday at 11:59 PM ET, and you must include your team name.
Remember to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and post your story as an “answer” to this question, not a “comment”. 🙂 You’re all doing such a great job! I’m so proud of all the stories you’ve posted.
Happy Writing!
The birds chirped a happy song in the sunshine, flying around the beauty of the Redwood National Park. Sunlight painted the sidewalks and lakes with an ethereal glow, Maria loved this place, this almost magical place filled with bustling animals instead of the usual New York crowds she was used to.This was where he Grandmother lived, she loved the place as much as Maria, even if she wasn’t truly herself these days.
Her grandmother, Willow, was a woman who didn’t talk much, unless it was needed. She would much rather watch the animals than talk to people. That was why it was so surprising that this year, Willow had invited Maria back, and warned her to hurry.
“They’re coming, Maria,” Willow had said, her gaze fixed on the distant, misty peaks.
“The Elders are coming home.”
Maria of course asked who “they” were, but Willow had only smiled, and told her to just wait.
Now, three days into her visit, Maria understood. They were here. She didn’t know what, but she felt it, like something was watching her. And yet it felt like something good.
Yesterday, she had seen a shadow that moved with impossible grace between the trees, and then it stared at her and disappeared.
Today, Willow led her deeper into the woods than ever before.
They strayed from the path, and went past ancient trees whose roots seemed to be bursting out of mossy ground. The air grew cooler, the light darker, and the sounds of animals disappearing.
Finally, they reached a clearing, a circle of standing stones, smooth and sharp, stood at the clearing’s edge. In the center, a single redwood tree stood.
“This is it, Maria,” Willow said, her voice barely a whisper.
“This is the place of reunion.”
Maria looked around, her heart pounding in her chest.
Reunion with who? What was about to happen?
Then, they emerged.
Not one, but dozens. Figures of immense size and strength, covered in thick, dark fur, stepped out from the shadows of the trees. They looked like-no- they couldn’t be-Bigfoot?
Maria stood frozen, her mind reeling. They were real??
She looked at Willow, who stood beside her, her face radiating joy.
“Welcome them, Maria,” Willow said, her hand resting gently on Maria’s arm.
Hesitantly, Maria stepped forward. As she moved, one of the Bigfoot, one with silver fur streaked through him, stepped forward to meet her.
His eyes were sad, dark and sad.
Maria turned to Willow, “What’s wrong with them grandma?”
Willow bit her lip and looked into the eyes of one of the bigfoots.
“Oh no.”
Willow went into a frantic frenzy,
“THERE COMING!”
Maria stood still, “More bigfoot?”
The silver one, most likely the leader, stepped forward.
“Willow-It has happened.”
Willow looked up at them and made a choked laughing sound.
“NO! This was supposed to be a time of joy, a time of peace! It can’t have-“
The silver bigfoot put a hand on the willow.
“Willow, stay calm, Remember? You beat him once, you can beat him twice.”
Maria stared dumbfounded, hundreds of bigfoot were injured, and her grandma was going insane.
“Please Burch, tell me it hasn’t happened.”
Burch stared at her solemnly.
“The realm has been broken, and Ireuas is out of his grave.”
Willow rushed over to Maria.
“Maria-My love, my daughter’s daughter, I’m so sorry that all this is happening, you need-no, you MUST find the Onyxeian, it’s the only way-“
Maria put her hand over Willow,
“Grandma, calm down-please-“
“CAN’T YOU FEEL IT?”
Maria shook her head.
willow sighed, tears willing, the bigfoots looked even sadder.
“He is here with us now.”
And then Willow was struck dead.
I didn’t expect that ending. Poor Willow!
