You all did so well with your stories last week! There were so many interesting and unique ways you interpreted the prompt. It’s now the fourth week, so it’s time to do it again! Will your story have an epic battle between good and evil? A long-lost evil brother? Whatever you decide, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
So, without further ado, here’s your next prompt!
Week Four Prompt – The Theme Prompt
Write a story that’s about a
Bigfoot Reunion
Wait…what’s a theme prompt?
A theme prompt is a prompt that’s about a particular subject! It doesn’t matter where your story takes place, who’s in it, or what’s said. The only thing that matters is that your story must be about a Bigfoot Reunion.
Before you start writing, we have some important rules for you to follow.
Writing Rules
1. Please keep the content of the stories you post to a PG rating. Please avoid real curse words. Violence/fighting should be limited and purposeful. Please do not include any spice.
2. Your story must be 1,000 words or less, and must contain the prompt to be counted for the challenge. You’re not required to post it in order to “win” the challenge, but if you want it to count for your team, your story must be posted by Sunday at 11:59 PM ET, and you must include your team name.
Remember to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and post your story as an “answer” to this question, not a “comment”. 🙂 You’re all doing such a great job! I’m so proud of all the stories you’ve posted.
Happy Writing!
The Wooden Brother
John took a nice giant footstep, smiled contentedly, and took another next to it with other leg. Then he put the wooden legs in the bag and toss them on his back.
John’s business in the small mountain hut was not going well. His regular customers had abandoned on him because of other huts, and he was calling them in vain with profitable offers. New tourists did come, but they were the kind who constantly wandered around and didn’t stay for more than a day. His hut was also quite old, and the furnishings took people back fifty years, but without the fond memories, and rather associated them with the inconveniences from that time. The views were nice, but not so much compared to the new places that had sprung up. His kitchen, was also of the old type of unhealthy cooking with cheap fat, white bread and sugar, and the meat was fatty, because all these calories, according to John, were easily burned in the mountains. Therefore, when his clients gave him feedback that they had left obese after their vacation, he thanked them, because it meant that he had fed them well.
The idea for the footsteps came to him when he was looking at photos of the thriving Loch Ness lake and the beautiful tourist places that had sprung up around it. As for his conscience, John decided that he was not doing anything wrong, but that people needed good stories and would walk in the forest differently if they knew that Bigfoot was hiding somewhere there. He just needed an eyewitness.
Just then a family came with children, aged 8 and 6.
And as he had hoped, the children found footsteps on the very first day.
„They’re so big, Dad!“ – the eight-year-old was showing and even exaggerating a little.
„I entered them….“ – the younger one boasted.
The parents laughed – as did John – but because they saw how excited the children were, they went with them to explain to them that these were several steps together, because the animal had been standing in one place and so on. When they got back, however, they started telling John.
„You won’t believe it!“ – they said, and John smiled again, because he really couldn’t believe something he had invented himself.
„We saw two big footprints, not far from the cabin.“
„Aha…“
„The footprints are perfect and of course no animal could have owned them.“
„But whose would they be then?“ – John asked in a fake way.
„Bigfoot’s, of course!“
„Yeehaa!“ – the children shouted too.
„We took pictures of them, look.“
The footprints had turned out pretty well, and John had no doubt that they would soon reached Bob’s friends, and who knows where. “What if the military came to investigate? Well, let them do it, but by then the tracks might be gone, And who doesn’t know that rumors start quickly and die slowly.” So John’s plan worked perfectly, and his little hut was put to the test..
The curious had long since ruined the footprints, especially the children who constantly wanted to step in them, but John had thought of printing out the photos and they hung them on that broken tree. For a whole month, people came from everywhere, and since some didn’t stay overnight, John came up with another trick. He created a hiking group, whose permanent leader was himself, and which he called “Bigfoot Seekers” and people signed up and went around the woods with him. And because he had to keep the interest going, John made up many stories about Bigfoot. He had marked one place as their first meeting, and another as the place where Bigfoot threw a piece of wood at him.
„Do you think he is aggressive?“ – people asked him, and John would answer cleverly:
„Of course not, he just wanted to play a game of stick throwing, and what do you think Bigfoots play with in the forest?“
So business began to flourish again, although the shortcomings of the hut and the kitchen remained the same.
However, the surrounding huts were not left out of the game, and before long a rumor spread that Bigfoot was embarrassed by the attention paid to him and had begun to visit the neighboring huts. John was very angry and made prints of the wooden footprints again, but the others were not stupid and did the same.
Until one day, John was again walking around the clearing with the broken tree, hoping to come up with something ingenious. And right there he saw someone standing in front of the new footsteps he had made. He was wearing those hairy coats that quickly collect all the trash on themselves, but the owners apparently like it and feel somehow more forest-like. John approached as quietly as he could, and the strong wind helped him, and so at the same time the two looked at each other.
His face was also furry and only now John saw that the individual was quite tall and was looking at him a little gloomy.
„What do you want, sir?“ – John asked.
But the other instead of answering, seemed to growl and then he swung and threw a thick pine cone at him. Then the angry one away and disappeared into the forest like a deer.
John stared at him, and was even more surprised when he saw what kind of footprints he had left – there was still hair in them, and the pads of the feet and the nails looked more real from the wooden ones.
And John understood… Of course he took real pictures, although he knew that even if he published them, no one would believe him. And he thought. “What brought you here, boy? You thought you’d find one of your brothers, right? And it turned out to be a wooden brother again…
