Welcome to the fourth week of the Spring Writing Challenge!
You all did so well with your stories last week! There were so many interesting and unique ways you interpreted the prompt. It’s now the fourth week, so it’s time to do it again! Will your story have an epic battle between good and evil? A long-lost evil brother? Whatever you decide, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.
So, without further ado, here’s your next prompt!
Week Four Prompt – The Theme Prompt
Write a story that’s about a
Bigfoot Reunion
Wait…what’s a theme prompt?
A theme prompt is a prompt that’s about a particular subject! It doesn’t matter where your story takes place, who’s in it, or what’s said. The only thing that matters is that your story must be about a Bigfoot Reunion.
Before you start writing, we have some important rules for you to follow.
Writing Rules
1. Please keep the content of the stories you post to a PG rating. Please avoid real curse words. Violence/fighting should be limited and purposeful. Please do not include any spice.
2. Your story must be 1,000 words or less, and must contain the prompt to be counted for the challenge. You’re not required to post it in order to “win” the challenge, but if you want it to count for your team, your story must be posted by Sunday at 11:59 PM ET, and you must include your team name.
Remember to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and post your story as an “answer” to this question, not a “comment”. 🙂 You’re all doing such a great job! I’m so proud of all the stories you’ve posted.
Happy Writing!
“Did you hear?”
Daniel yelled as he ran into the fallen tree trunk house that his family lived in. There’s a reunion for all of us big-footed swamp dwellers tomorrow at sundown, close to the highway to the east.
“Hush now Daniel.”
His mother whispered to him as he crashed through the swamp reed door curtain, into their one-room mound hut. “
You know it’s just human propaganda, they’re trying to get a cheeky picture of us to post all over their light rock they love talking into.”
Daneil’s mother told him as she stirred their trashbag and weed soup that simmered on a low, smokeless fire at the center of the room.
“I know it’s true this time ma! I heard it from Chief Little Big Toe. He said that it was bout time we all met up and showed the small-footed that it’s ok to walk barefoot.”
“Chief Little Big Toe!”
His mother gasped.
“It’s been years since he’s called a meeting of the formal feet. The last time was right before he got the thorn stuck under his toenail.”
At that moment, Daniel’s dad walked in with the loud sound of tramping and muttering and said.
“I almost got hit by a lifted Dodge Ram on the road coming back, to make it better the redneck threw a Mountain Dew bottle at me. You know me though, had to bring it home for supper.”
“Tell your father what you heard Dan.” Mama foot said.
“Chief Little Big Toe called a meeting of the formal feet close to the highway tomorrow.” Daniel told his father.
“Heard the same thing hiding out by the woodland path, leaving my usual footprints so that people don’t go coming to our humble abode.” Pa answered with a gleam of excitement in his eye.
“ We have to go, Marge.” Pa said, keeping his voice to a low whisper as he grabbed the bag the family kept for a trip such as this.
“Only if you say dear.” Ma said, separating the dinner into their leaf bowls.
Dinner went by fast, then the family made their way through the woods to the meeting place. The sun was rising through the trees as the family made it to the ‘meeting of formal feet’. The entire section of forest was filled with bigfeet from all parts of the state, some still getting there, some waking from a quick nap under the leaves on the forest floor. Everyone was greeting and sharing stories about the most recent scarings, or comparing foot sizes to see who might be the next chief after Little Big Toe. Suddenly a murmur started at one side of the crowd, Chief Little Big Toe was approaching, and then the gasps and cries started. Soon he stood on a large boulder and everyone could see his feet, his once bare and furry feet were now covered in SHOES. Red and white shoes with a small sewing on it of a small foot reaching to the sky, with a basketball in one hand, and the rest of the body in a jumping pose. Chief Little Big Toe raised his still grubby hands to silence everyone and spoke in an unhushed tone.
“Come now everyone calm yourselves, I’m still your chief and not a ghost.”
“Aye, but what be those on your feet?” Shouted Pa, pointing at the chief’s feet.
“These are my new swag, as the small-footed humans call it my good sir, my new Air Jordans fresh from the beautiful place named Amazon. You see, I did a bit of prowling myself a few days ago, and happened to find a light rock abandoned on a bench at the side of a trail. So what do you think I did? I picked it up to take a selfie and scare the owner, but it had this wonderful thing on the glow side, these beautiful shoes, and I could not resist but to get myself a pair. I left some bark dollars for the trouble of course, I wouldn’t have everyone thinking I rob innocent small feet.”
The whole forest exploded with angry outbursts and stomping feet.
“We’ve never worn shoes!”
“What about our beautiful footprints!”
“My nails wouldn’t ever fit!”
Chief Little Big Toe lifted his hands again to quiet the now angry crowd.
“I have a proposition for all that will satisfy everyone, being the wise chief that I am. Shoes for all.”
At that moment, Chief Little Big Toe jumped down and started grabbing pairs of shoes from a hole under the boulder and passing them out to everyone. At first there were disgusted mutters, then silence. Then from one side of the clearing, a voice said.
“These fit perfectly, and I can jump so high!”
Then another voice.
“I can finally not worry about stepping on rocks and glass!”
Soon all the bigfoots were running and jumping around the woods, laughing and cheering their newfound footwear. But as soon as the fun started it all came crashing down, because a loud shout echoed down from the highway.
“Look, it’s a bunch of bigfoot’s down there!”
At the startling sound of a human voice and the sight of now a couple of cars stopping at the side of the road, all the bigfoot people took off into the woods, still wearing their shoes.
Until this day, if you find a pair of shoes in the woods or streams out of town you can be sure it’s a Bigfoot’s shoes.
