In the early morning hours of December 26th I happened to see this lone figure strolling barefoot on the beach below my seaside bungalow. I reached for my glasses to be sure I was actually seeing what appeared to be Santa. He seemed to have a few items left in his velvet red bag and for a second I wondered if maybe he had not been able to deliver before the morning sun rose. If he was indeed the real deal, it seems his jolly old self had disappeared and he was looking fit and trim in his magical ruby red suit. As I left my deck and cautiously approached him, I was more eager to ask him a few questions than have a fear of him. As I walked parallel with him in the soft dry sand I could hear him softly chuckling to himself, possibly thinking ” here we go again”, which then prompted me to fire my first question at him.
Speaking loudly over the water lapping beyond him I asked him if he lost his shoes in an elfin bet? Again he chuckled, shaking his head in the negative. So, I decided game on Santa man.
My next question was a little more personal as I asked if he was heading home to the Mrs. with a few ocean treasures for her in his bag? His stride never missed a beat as once again he chuckled, seeming to enjoy the morning interaction we had going on. Therefore I felt led to tell him he looked very fit and trim after consuming the numerous cookies and such all night long. Yet another chuckle as he adjusted his black waist belt a little tighter with his free hand while still clinging to his sack.
My final thought was to try to get a verbal answer from him to reveal the contents of his sack.
With another little laugh to myself, I then ask him directly if the contents of his bag. With a little laugh to myself, this time, I asked him directly if the contents of his bag were left over items for those on the naughty list that just couldn’t be nice before the Christmas Eve deadline?
At this last question he did finally stop walking. He never removed the sack to show the contents within, but he did state in a rich baritone voice, that his new wife had purchased his pajama set, hat sack and all, as a Christmas Eve wedding gift. She knew he went beach walking in the wee hours of the morning and felt it only fitting to be dressed as the jolly old elf on Christmas morning. Thinking he might go unnoticed he felt it would be of little importance until I happened along.
I told him I was just curious of the story behind the whole suit and my wild imagination wasn’t even close to his revelation. I wished him a Merry Christmas honeymoon and that whatever was in his sack was something really special for his new wife. Once again he chuckled and finally placed the bag down and recited,
“My wife’s name is Sally.
She loves the seashore and so I got up early to find her some seashells before the tide washed them back to the sea. I found quite a few and was thankful for my little velvet sack to put them in.”
He then thanked me for the visit and said to have a great day. And I heard him exclaim as he walked out of sight Merry Christmas to all and that Mrs. Sally Clause will love his sack of seashells that he found by the seashore.
Sorry, was late and wouldn’t let me proofread and make corrections.
With Buddy Elf deciding to take Christmas so Santa can rest, Santa looked around for a vacation but unfortunately he got lost and landed on this island
