Happy Writing!

The swish of jackets and snowpants abound,
While laughter rings out in the crisp morning air.
And the fluffy white covering is now on the ground,
All telling the tale of the yards once bare.
The quiet sound of gloves rolling and packing,
Preparing for the fun to finally begin.
Patting the round spheres all help with the stacking,
To see who’s pile would last til the end.
A familiar chant soon blasts through the quiet buzz,
As the gloved hands all load up with their stash.
The first snow of the season is finally upon us,
Ready, set, aim as the snowballs fly by in a flash.
Don’t forget to duck!
‘Floridan Writes about Snow, Fails Horribly’
Now I don’t necessarily see the reason
Of writing about the first snow of season
When I myself have never seen it
Hard to fathom, can you believe it?
But I guess in my mind,
and my imagination
I’ll find a way to describe it,
via your interpretation
Picture this, a winter scene
Trees dead and fallen leaves
Autumn’s been dead for about a week
The weather feels old, almost antique
Then, in a soft flurry
Iced shapes fall down in a hurry
Like holiday magic lost long ago
Comes down in rushes, the winter’s snow
The cold flakes fall until they dust the ground
Each a unique shape, it’s twin never found
Crystals pile up like gems gone to dust
Lacing the trees with their blinding white rust
The wind carries on with it’s iron will
As the snowflakes fall with their tiny chill
Until on a blade of grass they lay still
Their journey done, quest fulfilled
There you have it, a poem about the first snow
A phenomenon I may never know
If I had the ability, though
Next winter’s eve, I’ll be sure to show
White Rain
Do you see it?
There it is–
White rain freckling the lazy gray sky.
Throw open the door
The curtains, the blinds
Behold the sight before you!
Drifting softly, ever so softly
Tucking the earth in its cool embrace.
Can you hear it?
The hush, the quiet shiver of air
Flakes meeting the stillness
Of the cold winter morn.
Open your mouth–taste it!
So pure, so bright
A fleeting sweetness dissolving
Into the warmth of the tongue.
The children rush–
Coats half-zipped, mittens inside out–
For school is out, and joy runs wild
Across the newborn world of snow.
I like the analogy of white rain!
I twist the blinds to peer outside
The window’s frosted over
Sullenly I crack the door
Surprise! I think it’s snowing
Not much at all
Only scattered flakes
Winding their way from the sky
I step on out, embrace the chill
No care my toes are freezing
Grinning wide, because it’s snowing!
The snow fall outside the window glistens as the sun shines down bright
I stand at the window and watch as snow falls around the trees
The snow is beautiful, its white and shimmering
As I watch the snow fall throughout the day
I think of the Savior who came to the world 2,000 years ago
I think of the Savior who conquered sin, hell, and the grave.
As the snow falls around the windows I raise my hands in praise
I thank my Savior in Heaven for His sacrifice He made
To cleanse me of my sins so I would be made
As white as the snow that I watch fall around my windows today.
“New-Fallen Snow”
Starlight glistens on new-fallen snow,
While wind-tossed flakes dance to and fro,
Unique, alone, each crystal white,
Together forms a blanket bright,
That shrouds the sleeping world below,
Such is the magic of new-fallen snow.
“One Had to Fall”
One had to fall,
Before the rest
could fill the sky in blinding squalls,
And start the others on the quest,
To lead them all.
One had to shove,
And slip away
from heaven’s cosseting clouds above,
And on the shivering grasses lay
A piece of fluff.
One whirling low,
And hovering ‘round
It rests, while flurries starts to grow,
And children dash on whitening ground,
“It’s the First Snow!”
Cold gray skies above,
Frosty earth below,
The air is cold, trees are still,
waiting, waiting, until
First one, then two,
Finally a whole slew
Of snowflakes
Falling gently, softly
Caressing the trees,
Landing lightly on sidewalks, streets, and homes,
Blanketing the world in white.
My First Snow
The sky cries sometimes.
It pours down tears on the thirsty earth.
Rain torrenting down,
the rain is gloomy and foreboding.
I cry all the time,
the pain never seems to leave my mind.
Rolling down my cheeks,
time after time, again and again.
Life seems to worsen,
but a question pours into my thoughts:
‘You know what snow is?’
Just rain frozen into beautiful.
Maybe someday God,
form my tears into songs glorious.
Like rain turned to snow
Please change my tears to heavenly ones.
The pain in my life,
turn it to frozen crystals of Your love.
My gray, dreary rain,
by Your grace turned to sparkling diamonds.
First snow of my life,
I’m venturing into a new season.
Not one void of pain,
but one where God turns it to life.
When grass fades to brown
And leaves fall from the trees,
When the weather turns cold
And there’s a chill on the breeze:
We look to the sky
Where the clouds fill and tease
Then drop flakes of snow
At the first winter freeze.
December brings lots of toys. For good little girls and boys. away. I wonder if on that cold, wintery day. If the first snow fall was on its way.
Oh, the wonder of it all As the white, fluffy flakes fall. They are so beautiful and pure as they. fall on the ground without making a sound
Some have six sides, and some do not. They do not swill or twrill in one spot. Each one is special in its own way. When the first snow drifts down on that first day
The children whoop and holler. Forget all about being a scholar. The T.V. blares “No school today” Children run out to play before the first snow melts away.
First Snow
King Solomen stated in Ecclesiastes
There is nothing new under the sun
It might have been true for him
But not for everyone.
We watch the seasons relentless march
Seeing new smiles and tears of love
Solomen lost his focus at times
Forgetting the gifts from God above
Sunshine and rain to ease our souls
In spring and summer- sun and sand
Autumn’s paintbrush touching swirling leaves
The first snow of winter sprinkled by God’s hand
I’m at the mercy of the wind
Autumn left me so bitter
Why did you bring me here?
My heart is a stone,
Swallowed by cold
Ageing years
I’m alone
Like usual
I’m tired of waiting
For you to heal my wound
Maker above, please help me
It is to you I beg, I plead
The wind gives me a chilling hug
There, in the heavens above
A frozen tear trembles
Proclaiming your love
You notice me
Evidence
in my hand
It melts away
Pain is beautiful
Yet not everlasting
He told me “Wait, my dear. Watch.”
If only problems were a flake
The world would fade and float away.
The tear’s friends followed her path,
Embracing everything
You make bitter things
Beautiful
If you could…
Take my burden.
Make it like the snow.
Make me new, make me whole.
Transform it into beauty.
Make it as wonderful as you.
-A.H. Bradbury
Oh my word! That’s so much like mine and I didn’t even read your’s before I wrote mine. Absolutely beautiful, good job! <3
Snow or ice
It’s a roll of the dice
No one knows
What Oklahoma wind throws
Until the sky releases
Its first frozen pieces
At long last winter has graced us
With a blanket of brilliant white
Drawn from the grey sky with a reverent hush
A lacy quilt of feathery light
Gently covering all that is dreary and dull
Left behind after all Autumn’s glory
Now, after a soft lull
Winter tucks us in for the next chapter of the oldest story
Fluffy white pieces float from the sky in clumps.
Light sparkles against them even as the sky is grey.
Then I realize what comes next. The sky dumps
Far too much snow for one day.
I watch in dread as the ground ices over.
The sparkly snow rests in a thin blanket.
Now I need a coat to protect myself from exposure
To the cold temperatures. Dang it.
So pretty it seemed until I remember:
There are six months left of winter.
Florida Snowfall
It starts in mid-autumn, one landing here, another over there
Drifting together, descending to fill the condos and country clubs.
Two for tea, three for a show, foursomes and luncheons, bridge and mahjong.
Afternoons poolside, dinner on the waterfront.
It’s an easy exchange, an obvious choice, warm sun and sand versus cold slush and grey.
As the snow begins to fall in the north,
the migration of snowbirds arrive in Florida.
Snow
drifts
beyond
the
window,
Flakes
of
frost,
Scattered,
Tossed,
Like
stars
at
night,
Glittering
sight,
First
of
more
to
show
Winter rises from her bed
And shakes the tangles from her head
Frozen stalactite of curls
Loosing into frosty pearls
That flick towards the evening blush
And shatter quiet Autumn’s hush
With crunch and crack and arctic sneeze
She yawns and walks in languid ease
And all of new and green feign death
Vapored on her chilly breath.
Snow-bearing cloud
when did it appear,
and you are not loud
how many snowflakes do you bring me, dear?
And don’t you know that I count them?
Oh, I am impatient for the first snow anthem!
– Your loving Earth!
First snow, snow first
Four seasons have we, from hot to cold,
Blistering sun to falling colorful leaves,
Oh but the joy of that first fallen snow,
God’s painting landscapes with such ease.
Blistering sun to falling colorful leaves,
Nature waking up to sleeping for a season,
God’s painting landscapes with ease,
Snow-time fun for daughters and sons.
Nature waking up to sleeping for a season,
Thrills and laughter is heard all year long,
Snow-time fun for daughters and sons,
Gentle breezes to winds so strong.
Thrills and laughter is heard all year long,
God’s handiwork is life overflowing,
Gentle breezes to winds so strong,
Bundle up, go outside while it’s snowing.
God’s handiwork is life overflowing,
Fluffy white clouds to rainbows so bright,
Bundle up, go outside while it’s snowing,
Oh, but that first falling snow, what a sight!
I’m not happy with the way each line was separated.
Same here. I had to use my phone so I couldn’t format it in single spacing.
SNOWFALL
Sparkling, shimmery, soft and silvery.
Silence.
Glistening white covers dirty brown
and quiet pervades
until a doe steps out of the woods
and the sound of a twig breaking under her hoof
echoes across the meadow.
Write a poem about the first snow of the season.
The first snow of the season
It’s finally here
Don’t you hear it?
The sound of children cheer
“No school! No school! No School” they sing
They go and play some say it’s time for gaming
The beautiful snowflake made by God
Floated down and thought it was odd
Children are excited to stay inside and play
Not with me no not tomorrow not even today
They’re all inside playing laughing chatting with friends
On electronic devices it seem it’ll never end
Until one day the 25th of December
Was a day I remember now and forever
