Charlie Kirk would give anyone the microphone. He’d really let them speak. Then he’d do something really simple: he’d ask them to back up what they were saying with real facts.
That’s what the enemy hated. Because in an open marketplace of ideas, the TRUTH wins.
I believe Charlie Kirk was a martyr. I believe that he was a Christian and he was authentic in his mission to take Jesus and Christian ideas into the political arena.
I see tons of young people rising up, inspired to do more and make this life count because of his assassination.
And that is where we need good counsel.
God doesn’t need you to be Charlie Kirk. God needs you to be you. Charlie’s mission was political discourse in the public arena. What is your mission?
The greatest disservice to the Kingdom would be if, inspired by Charlie’s death, we all decided to become great political debaters and went to war on Twitter.
Maybe that’s your calling. I’m certain God has a new generation ready to step into what Charlie did. But I’m fairly certain there are more parts to the body of Christ than that.
You know what Charlie Kirk did better than anyone else? Be himself.
Charlie Kirk was the Charlie Kirk-iest of all the Charlie Kirks. He fully stepped into what he could be without fear of man.
It’s my job to be the Brad Pauquette-iest of all the Brad Pauquettes. It’s my job to fully step into my calling without fear of man.
It’s your job to be the you-iest you. Of all the yous, you must be the you-iest. And you must step into your calling without half measures, and without fear.
If God’s not calling you to the political arena, that’s OK. You don’t need to imitate Charlie in that way. Instead, imitate Charlie in his boldness and in his competency.
Whatever God is calling you to do, do it with absolute boldness. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that you feel called to be a writer. What would it look like to pursue that with your full self? What would it look like to give everything to that, 100%, and to do it without fear?
Imitate Charlie Kirk in his competency. He worked to become the best at what he did. He didn’t just do it fearlessly, he also did it with excellence. That’s why we know his name.
Whatever God is calling you to pursue, do it with excellence. Work hard to become the best at it. Get training, practice, community, support…whatever it takes to be the best.
God created you for a purpose. He gets to decide what the most authentic version of you is. It’s not just what makes you happy or what you’re good at. God is calling you into a specific mission in the Kingdom, and God gets to say who you are.
Your job is to shed off all the muck of the world, shed the fear, and step fully into being what God has called forth in you.
There’s a good chance that public politics isn’t it. There are many parts to this body of believers.
The enemy would love for you to waste your fire on a fool’s errand. The enemy would love for you to exasperate yourself. Satan doesn’t need you to become a heathen, he just wants you to be distracted. He hates that God would use you effectively.
Don’t let the enemy bait you into wasting your time and emotional energy on something God hasn’t anointed you for.
Instead, through prayer, and in healthy community, seek the Lord’s calling on your life. Be inspired by Charlie, but only imitate him in that he imitated Christ. Chase after the same boldness and competency, and apply it to everything God is calling YOU to be.
Submit yourself to the same pursuit of goodness and truth in the world.
Then trust God to use your willing heart.

Amen bro! That’s where the challenge lies. If you emulate someone else, you have an example, something you can see. But if you have to pursue God’s calling for your life, you have to seek Him, because there is no exact example out there. Sometimes so much easier to copy than to build something with Him.
Great point! Thanks, Wesley!
I wholeheartedly agree, but with one minor difference. My first name is Karen and I don’t want to be known as the Karenest Karen in today’s culture of disparaging my name.
haha. Well, I guess we each have our cross to bear. 🙂
Bravo and amen! Such a good point, Brad, and well written. (Of course:)
I attended a vigil for Charlie Kirk this week , and tho the slogan WAS “Be Charlie Kirk!” I am pleased to say they focused on our walk with Christ and on whatever He is calling us to do. Students from TPUSA at UNCChapel Hill spoke and one shared how inspired he was by Charlie’s challenge to follow Christ, get married, have children and be a good husband and father. Whew! Some get it. Loved your post. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for reading. 🙂
I love this! Especially as I am becoming a new person as a mother. I don’t want to be a copy of the other moms around me but to be the me-ist mom I am supposed to be.
I have been lost for four years, forgetting who I am and where I belong.
I had never heard of Charlie Kirk until his devastating and shocking death. As I watched his videos and listened to him with all the college kids, I became overwhelmed with sadness.
I began to start thinking about where I’m meant to be. Then I read what you have written here and once again began thinking about where I am supposed to be.
Mainly, I want to thank you for your words of wisdom. I now believe I am ready to once again find myself.
Jane
Hey Jane. I’m so glad that you feel God calling out to you. His plans are good! I’m happy to hear that what I’ve written could play a small part in His plan for your life.
