It’s a bait and switch. The whole thing, I mean.
We tell our apprentices that they’re coming here to become professional writers. I mean that’s true and we really do that, but it’s not what’s most important to me.
The most important thing to me is to see their lives change and to see them radically on fire for Jesus and filled with the Holy Spirit.
Writers are sometimes a shy bunch. Most of our apprentices are college-aged, just leaving home for the first time. Melissa sometimes calls them “baby adults.”
But by the time they leave, they pray with power. They can lead and teach small groups with a moment’s notice. While I believe our journey to intimacy with Jesus never really ends on this side of heaven, they leave fully immersed in God’s love, knowing who they are and whose they are.
We’re not just raising up keyboard warriors. We’re raising up disciples of Jesus who can do the work of the gospel. And who can do it without having a panic attack.
I tell you that because our mission is bigger than just changing some unsuspecting kid’s life. Our mission is about the millions that they’ll reach with the stories God has placed on their hearts to tell. Our mission is about a redeemed American media that serves the Kingdom. A lot of times we focus on that big, wide impact.
But…changing that kid’s life is also really important. Especially to that kid.
The work that we’re doing at The Company is changing lives. It changes our apprentices (dramatically). It brings the gospel to places it wasn’t reaching before. And we also provide support and resources for the greater community of Christian writers. It’s a win-win-win.
And I want you to be a part of it.
When we started this ministry, we used to fundraise all the time. About two years ago we made some major changes, and now we only do it once per year. It’s November, so over the next few weeks you’ll get a few emails about this. Rest assured that when December comes you won’t hear about this for another year, unless we’re fundraising for specific projects (like when Noah got hit by a car).
What we do here costs money. Most of our work is paid for by our program tuition, contract projects that our apprentices take on, and a few long-time supporters. But every year there’s a gap.
This year we need to raise about $23,000 to close the gap. That might sound like a lot, but it’s really not.
200 new paid members to The Company would do it.
20 people who can give $100 per month would do it.
1 person who can give $1,000 per month would get us more than halfway there.
Or any combination of those things. Even just a one-time gift of $25 from you will chip away at that number and make a big difference.
We presently employ one full-time person (me), and five part-time individuals. In addition to our full-time apprentices, we support thousands of writers through our online programs and resources.
Your help allows us to keep our tuition reasonable. Our apprentices travel from all over the country to pursue with their whole hearts the mission God has given them. Your help matters.
There are a few really easy ways to help:
Become a paid member of The Company – For just $10 per month, you can support the work that we do, and you’ll have access to all of our online resources. Become a member here.
Give a one-time gift – Whether it’s $10 or $10,000, it helps. Click here to give.
Become a monthly donor – Monthly donors provide consistent ongoing support for our work. Even an amount that might seem insignificant to your monthly budget can add up in a big way to support this work. Setup a monthly donation here.
Bonus: all of our merchandise sales support that work that we do here. Get something cool for yourself or to give as a gift. SHOP HERE.

Here’s the thing I’m not supposed to say: we don’t need your money.
But it may be important for you to give it.
As the old mission’s adage says: Some give by going, and others go by giving. We’re here doing the work, financial support is one way you can be involved in that. This is one way that you can join us in this work.
Like Paul tells his friends in Philippians 4:17, “Not that I need the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.” If God is calling you to support the changed lives of blooming writers; if God is calling you to be a part of a redeemed American media—this is one way that you can be a part of it.
If you’re an aspiring writer, maybe this is a way that you can take a step of faith and put a little skin in the game.
I know that our needs will be met. They always are. The math doesn’t even work sometimes, but somehow everything is OK. Melissa and I are in our seventh year of this ministry now, and somehow everything is always OK. God always provides what we need.
If we don’t close the gap this year, we may just do less stuff. We’ll scale back some of what we can do and offer.
But that’s also the cool part. When you give, it’s not just a drop in the bucket. When you give $100, we can do $100 more good work. We’re not some multi-million-dollar organization where it all washes together—even a small donation means we make more impact.
We called ourselves “The Company,” because a company, by definition, is just a group of people who work together towards a common goal. You are a part of this. For some, financial support is a role that you can play in this ministry. I’ll do the job of being the director, and you can do the job of financier.
Here’s all I ask: consider the work we do and pray. Ask God if supporting this work, in a big or little way, is a role he has for you to play right now.
If he says “yes,” trust Him. That’s what we do.
