We are pleased to announce the winner of the winter flash fiction writing contest. Lindsey Hines is the grand prize winner for her story, “The Server.”

Lindsey Hines, Winner
Lindsey Hines, Winner!

The theme was “disrupted,” and Lindsey create a robust sci-fi universe and a compelling moment in less than 1,000 words. Her story was imaginative and compelling, and stood out from the competition.

Lindsey won the $100 Amazon gift card, as well as bragging rights, and her story has been published to the School of Kingdom Writers website! Read it here.

Miriam Lieberkind is this quarter’s runner-up, for her literary fiction piece titled “Numbers.” Miriam explored the way mental illness can change our concept of “disruption.” Miriam will receive the item of her choice from the SOKW store (click). Check it out for cool writerly t-shirts and coffee mugs.

We’d also like to give an honorable mention to the following authors.

  • Savannah Jane McCrary for “The Birthday Basket”
  • Leanna Hampton for “Don’t Panic”
  • Lia Kethcart for “Songs Upon an August Afternoon”

While these stories didn’t take the prize, they impressed our judges and stood out among their peers.

Don’t worry if you missed this contest or didn’t win, the fun starts all over every quarter. This spring we’re looking for flash fiction stories on the theme “Back to Life.” The School of Kingdom Writers students chose the theme and will judge the contest. The usual fabulous prizes apply. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2022. Get all of the details here.

These contests are one way that we support the community of Christian writers. This is an important opportunity to test your work in an open marketplace. There’s no cost to enter, and you always retain the rights to your work. Flash fiction makes it fun and easy to enter.

Check it out and submit your work! What have you got to lose?
