In my story that I’m writing she finds a journal can that be the guide? the journal will lead her to do great things and give her advise.
It’s possible to make that work, but it will be challenging.
All of your characters need to be people. You can get creative, but they need to have a sense of personhood. They need to be interactive, unpredictable, autonomous, creative–all the things that people are.
You can make a journal work, but you’re going to have to be clever with your writing to give it an interactive feel so that the journal becomes more than just an inanimate object.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn uses a journal in place of one of the characters for the first half of the book. It’s not exactly family reading, but it proves that the method can work if it’s executed really well.
