This happened when I first wrote the tragic event of the story. Now I am editing and I still experience really tough feelings when trying to analyze and edit this scene. Two scenes actually. The event and the follow up inquiry. The event is not a personal one as it is nothing like anything I know, nor have I spoken with anyone who experienced it.
I have been able to write most of the book while considering what I would do or feel in these situations. Wondering if anyone else has had trouble writing a traumatic scene due to not wanting to engage in those emotions yourself?
That’s a really interesting question, Dave.
I can relate to intensely feeling a character’s emotion as I’m writing, but it usually doesn’t make me withdraw from the scene. I think sometimes it even pulls me deeper.
Writing is such an empathetic experience! I think that’s such a cool way that God can use our writing, not just for what we produce, but for what it produces in us.
I feel that way when reading A book, it must be tough when writing a book. I hope you figure it out.
