At first Louis is a Frenemy, but then he turns really bad. And he effects the whole world. Would he then be a mega-Antagonist. If so would I have to get another Frenemy?
Good question, Laura.
Your characters can’t change archetypes. They just are what they are.
Your Mega-Antagonist can behave like a Frenemy until they’re revealed to be the Mega-Antagonist. But he will have been the Mega-Antagonist the whole time. Bad guys often pretend to be something they’re not until they’re revealed.
So you would need another character that is the Frenemy throughout the book.
Even if the character’s true nature isn’t revealed until later in the story, you’re still going to assign them to one character archetype. They should never change.
I think The Novel Matrix book will really help you to go deeper on the subject of characters, and it will pay off as you move forward. There’s a lot more depth to the subject than what we can cover in the 90-Day Novel Challenge. 🙂
That’s helpful for me, cuz my antagonist behaves as a suspicious friend for probably a third of the book until he’s revealed.
