Copy editing is a critical role in the publishing industry. Every book, magazine, and newspaper needs a copy editor. Even marketing firms need someone on their team with this skill set.
Our new 13-part series will teach you the art of copy editing. Introduction to Copy Editing is now available to all paid members of The Company (a $249 value!).
Introduction to Copy Editing is taught by publishing veteran Emily Hitchcock. Emily began her career in publishing as a copy editor, and is now the owner and CEO of Columbus Publishing Lab and Boyle & Dalton.
Copy editing isn’t just memorizing a bunch of rules. Great copy editors know how to apply the rules, and when to bend or break them.
The first half of this course will familiarize you with the role of a copy editor and normal operating procedures. The second half of the course will explore some of the specific rules of the The Chicago Manual of Style and how to perform a copy edit.
No prerequisites are necessary. This course is designed for beginning copy editors.
If you’d like to become a professional copy editor, a certification process is available through The Company. After completing the Introduction to Copy Editing course, an optional test is available to begin the certification process.*
This course will be helpful even if you don’t intend to become a copy editor. Knowing what the job of a copy editor is (and isn’t!) will help you to be a great author to work with.
