I’m writing a story where the MC’s life keeps changing drastically (it’s epic fantasy, so when I say drastic I mean drastic). She goes from being heir to being nothing to being half-robot (because it’s also scifi). And each time she undergoes a name change for various reasons.
My idea was to start at the end of her journey, when she’s trying to reconcile all the pieces of her life, but have chapters throughout it showing how she got there. Since those characters would be under different names, it would take a while for people to see this is all one character (slow-burn realization is my goal). It’s a big story, so I’m still not entirely sure I’ll go down this route, but I did read a story recently where this was done (and done rather well, though it could have been better). Thoughts? opinions? does this even make sense?
I would say go for it, and if it makes no sense, than at least you learned from writing it! It would be hard to juggle all those plotlines well… but it sounds really intriguing, and also just fun to write!
