There are plenty of writing courses in the world available to you. Some are Christian, some are not. Some are helpful, some are not.

Your experience with The Company’s writing apprenticeship will be pretty different from any other writing program.

Our writing apprenticeship is designed for an aspiring novelist who is all-in for Jesus and is looking for an in-person hands-on apprenticeship experience. Most of our apprentices are college aged, but they don’t have to be.

Here are 8 factors that will make your experience at The Company different from anything else on the planet.

  • In-person, full-time program
  • Two years (exactly)
  • Genuinely affordable tuition
  • Real Apprenticeship – hands-on learning doing real-life projects with one-on-one support
  • Live teaching (not recorded videos and Zoom meetings!)
  • You’ll learn how to edit books and do other cool stuff so that you can make money upon graduation (and even before graduation!)
  • Spiritual development is a priority
  • 100% Kingdom Focused

If you’d like to apply, it’s easy. You can start here: https://writers.company/training/full-time-apprenticeship/apply/

There are many other Christian writing courses, but no one is doing these 8 things like we are.

Let’s break down these things that make your experience at The Company’s writing apprenticeship unique:

In-person

As far as we know, this is the only full-time in-person writing apprenticeship in the world (Christian or otherwise). As an apprentice, you get to move to Cambridge, Ohio for two years to learn and grow, and we work together every day like a normal job.

Cambridge is a really quaint small town in eastern Ohio, in the beautiful foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Our apprentices come from all over the country.

Because we’re in-person, we also get to do a lot of fun projects together. You don’t go write in your bedroom in your own house on your own. You get your own desk in this creative, collaborative office environment that makes it so much easier to actually write!

Two-year program

Our program takes two years. By the end of the two years, all of our graduating apprentices have already published a book or are on track to publish.

Genuinely Affordable Tuition

We want you to be able to afford your time here. We don’t hide the tuition cost. As of 2026, our current tuition is $9,600, for a total two-year cost of less than $20,000. This is well below the average annual in-state tuition of public universities in Ohio.

This is also less than half of the total cost of another writing program that uses similar “Christian writing apprenticeship” language. This other program is not in-person and has many other differences as well.

Real Apprenticeship – Hands-on

in-person christian writing school

You will learn by doing in a hands-on, personalized environment. Our program is intentionally small, with no more than 12 apprentices. That means you get tons of personal help, support, and care.

Brad will know you specifically and learn your unique vision and challenges. He’ll guide you and help you as you make big steps towards the dream God has placed on your heart.

You won’t do make-believe projects here that you’ll throw away at the end of the program. With help, instruction, and supervision, you get to work on real-life projects.

Live Teaching (not videos and Zoom meetings)

We occasionally use video resources, but the vast majority of teaching you’ll receive is live, in-house, and interactive. You’re not watching pre-recorded videos on the computer and then meeting with someone else over Zoom.

Brad, and sometimes guest speakers, will teach you in-person, face to face.

Develop a real writing business

It can take time to develop a profitable fiction-writing business, and royalty income can be unpredictable. Rather than teach you how to start a dog-walking or a cleaning business, we teach you how to make money within the publishing industry.

You won’t just learn how to write books, you’ll also learn how to make them! You’ll learn copy editing, developmental editing, book design, copy writing, and so much more! And you’ll have tons of hands-on practice with real projects.

So far, 100% of our graduates successfully make money within the writing and publishing industry in addition to book royalties, while they continue to invest in their own projects and build their fiction career.

You’ll get a little bit of instruction and experience in lots of different jobs in the writing and publishing industry. Then you’ll get to pick what you really like, and you’ll get lots of real experience in that!

Spiritual Development Matters

We believe that writers are ministers. You don’t have to write “Christian” books (which is really just a marketing label) to be an apprentice here. However, whether you write “Christian” books are not, you are a Christian, and there’s no way to be a successful writer without thousands of people paying attention to you. Your relationship with Jesus is everything.

Even if you choose to write gritty books to share Kingdom values with secular audiences, when people look at you, we want them to see Jesus. That’s the whole point.

Christian writers worshipping Jesus

Jesus said, “From the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” If you’re filled with the Holy Spirit and you have an active relationship with God, you won’t need to write a Narnia-style allegory to share the Gospel with someone. The Gospel will bleed into everything you write and everything you do.

2 Peter 1:5-9 says, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”

That’s what we’re after with our spiritual development curriculum.

To be a successful writer, you will face trials and temptations of many kinds. It would be irresponsible of us to turn you loose to influence thousands of people without also equipping you with a rock-solid Christian faith.

We want to see you grow in Bible study, wisdom, discernment, and your ability to hear God’s voice.

100% Kingdom Focused

The Company’s writing apprenticeship is only for Christians who are passionate about Jesus (or who want to be passionate about Jesus, it’s ok if you’re still figuring it out).

We do NOT welcome applicants of all religious backgrounds. What we have is too good to give to the world.

At The Company, this isn’t just a safe “Christian” space where you won’t have to read too much cussing and everybody’s pretty nice. We are serious about producing writers who are rock-solid in their faith and who impact the world for the Kingdom of God.

We believe that what we teach you will give you power and influence. Like it or not, there is no way to be a successful writer without influencing thousands of people.

I would no sooner give these skills to a non-believer than I would give a loaded gun to a toddler.

Praying Christian Writers

We worship Jesus together every morning. We pray together frequently through the day. Practically all of our conversations incorporate the Kingdom of God into what we’re doing. We take communion together almost every Friday.

We are making disciples first. Our second priority is your writing. If you’re not wanting to be a disciple of Jesus, this won’t be a very good fit for you.

We don’t just want writers who also go to church. We want disciples who are all-in surrendered to Jesus, and who express that through amazing writing.

You don’t have to be a perfect Christian to be here. You might have a lot of questions. You might feel like there are things you don’t “get,” things you’re still trying to figure out, and that’s fine. But you must profess Jesus as Lord and savior of your life, and you must have a desire to grow in your relationship with Him.

Is The Company’s writing apprenticeship the right fit for you?

Other writing programs have their own assets, and they may be the right fit for many people. I don’t want to disparage anyone else’s work. We are many parts of one body.

But these are the things that are unique to The Company. As far as we can tell, no one is doing them in the way that we are. This is the vision God has given us.

Christian Writing Apprentices

Here’s who we are:

  • We are a real hands-on apprenticeship, in-person, for two-years.
  • The tuition is genuinely affordable.
  • You’ll learn to write great books, and you’ll learn how to make money within the writing and publishing industry doing other cool stuff too.
  • More than anything else, you’ll grow in your relationship with Jesus.

If that sounds cool, The Company might be a really good fit for you, and we’d love for you to visit or apply.

You can check out the application here: https://writers.company/training/full-time-apprenticeship/apply/ Don’t stress out about the application, just do your best. This is just a tool to allow us to start a conversation together.

(Speaking of visiting, our Spring Retreat on April 24-25 is a great time to check things out.)
